COUNTRIES WITH MOST RELIANCE ON NUCLEAR POWER

What is Nuclear Power?

Nuclear power is a clean and efficient way of boiling water to make steam, which turns turbines to produce electricity. Except for the reactor itself, nuclear power stations work like most coal or gas-fired power stations.

Nuclear power plants use low-enriched uranium fuel to produce electricity through a process called fission—the splitting of uranium atoms in a nuclear reactor. Uranium fuel consists of small, hard ceramic pellets that are packed into long, vertical tubes. Bundles of this fuel is inserted into the reactor.

The first commercial nuclear power stations started operation in the 1950's.
There are over 440 commercial nuclear power reactors operable in 31 countries, with over 390,000 MWe of total capacity. About 60 more reactors are under construction.
They provide over 11% of the world's electricity as continuous, reliable power to meet base-load demand, without carbon dioxide emissions.
55 countries are operating a total of about 250 research reactors, and a further 180 nuclear reactors power some 140 ships and submarines.
Nuclear technology uses the energy released by splitting the atoms of certain elements. It was first developed in the 1940's, and during the Second World War to 1945 research initially focused on producing bombs which released great energy from the atoms of particular isotopes of either uranium or plutonium.

Countries With Most Reliance On Nuclear Power

1. FRANCE

France produces 76.98% of its electricity using Nuclear Power.

The other countries that rely on Nuclear Power Plants for their Electricity are Sweden, Armenia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Hungary. Currently, Nuclear Energy supplies 12% of the world's electricity and 20% of the energy in United States. Whereas India, Pakistan and China use 5% of their Nuclear Power for generating electricity.

For decades, GE Hitachi have been at the forefront of nuclear technology, setting the industry benchmark for reactor architecture and construction, and most importantly, helping utility customers operate their plants safely and reliably.
